Did someone just say that? It's okay quit homeschooling? Yes!!!!
After homeschooling my kids for eight years I put my 1st grader and 3rd grader in school five weeks ago. Yes, right in the middle of the school year.
I'm writing this post because when I was struggling with the decision to send them or not I could not find anything online that said it's okay to stop homeschooling. Every forum or blogpost I read left me feeling like I would be doing my children the most harm if I sent them to public school.
It was as if there is this unspoken rule in the homeschool community that if one person jumps ship the whole system will collapse. Well, I'm here to tell you it isn't true. It's okay to make a different educational choice for your kids. Especially if you are burnt out, depressed or have come to realize you aren't the best educator.
This doesn't mean you are a failure, it simply means you realize your strengths and your limits and that is a very healthy thing to do.
Homeschool is a beautiful option for educating your children. There are many benefits to having your kids at home full time and the flexibility is fabulous. However, public school is not the devil and there are strengths and weaknesses to sending your kids there too.
I will blog more tomorrow about this, but I want any homeschool mom who is out there who is feeling at the end of her rope and wanting to quit know it's okay! Your kids will survive, you will survive. The most important thing is that you are a good mother and that has nothing to do with whether you are your kids full time teacher or just there full time mom. It's okay to stop homeschooling your kids.
